Call. Always call before sending any materials. Tell them what the project is about and explain why you are passionate about it but don't oversell it.
Wait two weeks before following up if you haven’t received any feedback.
Instead of emailing: “just following up here,” CALL. And if they don’t answer or return within 24 hours, email something that requires more of a response: “Does it make sense to set a time for you to speak to the director? Would love for you to hear her vision!”
If you sense any hesitation from the investor, have a conversation about what is working for them. If you sense a lot of ongoing uncertainty, they are probably not the right partner for this project, and that’s okay! More often than you’d expect, people won’t OFFICIALLY pass. They’ll string you along just in pure avoidance of conflict. Be ruthless with yourself.
